Ash "AshSmash" Huang's Holistic Timeline

What a very cool and interesting portfolio website! It was just chosen this very week to be one of the Communication Arts Webpicks of the Day (on January 21). Talk about fresh design!

Please visit Ash Huang's website at ashsmash.com/ and see screenshots below (but visit the site for the full effect).

Commarts.com's description: "Ash Huang is an independent creative who wanted to feature both design and writing samples on her site. The rainbow grid expresses the uniqueness of her clients, while unifying her portfolio as a holistic timeline."

I love the combination of writing samples and design, and the grid works perfectly. Each project has a concise description at the top and large photographs of various components of the project. She has done work for Pinterest, Twitter, and other large companies. Her portfolio website has clean typography and layout and is very easy to navigate. I was intrigued by her writing as well. This design really appeals to me overall. No wonder it was selected as a Webpick! Very nice.

This is both the landing page and the work page.

I very much like the footer.

One of her blog pieces.

HEAVY—A Unique and Humorous Portfolio Website

Nick Coates, a.k.a. Heavy, has a portfolio website that was chosen as The CSS Awards (www.cssdesignawards.com) Site of the Day as well as the Awwwards.com (http://www.awwwards.com/) Site of the Day. It's pretty amazing. I was immediately attracted to the spacious feel and color scheme, and the artwork and typography are beautiful! It's definitely memorable. The orange cat is his "mascot" (I was just reading an article about how a lot of designers are using a mascot as part of their identities or even their logos), and he makes it clear that he is an animal lover.

The site has a vintage theme, and the textures are subtle yet very appealing. The whole thing is really appealing to me! It's very easy to navigate; probably my favorite part is that when you click a navigation button, the illustrated man (assumably a self-portrait by Nick Coates) holds up an object that tells you where you are going! For example, for WORK he holds up a hammer; for CONTACT he holds up a phone! It's hysterical!

Reading his copy shows his quirky sense of humor and intelligence. For example, under the heading, "Development" (skill area), he lists:
  • Spoon-bending code perfection.
  • Content an idiot could manage.
  • jQuery boredom reduction.

Here are some screenshots, but I suggest that you go to his website to really experience it: http://www.foreverheavy.com

Home Page—It just drew me in immediately!

Click on the WORK button, he holds up a hammer. It's silly...in a good way!

Each piece of his work has a description, option to expand the image, and a link to the website.

Who is this man? Very funny bio page. Humor is throughout, yet it looks so professional.

I like that he has a blog.

Nice contact page. Every page shows consistency of the theme.

An example of a piece of his work expanded.
